The twinkle of honest-to-God stars shone high above them. The wide-eyed grins and moments of crazed satisfaction on my fellow travelers’ faces must have mirrored my own. I watched as they enjoyed the sights, sounds, and smells—all of which were too bright, too loud, and too pungent.
